don't forget the dogs!

let's not forget our favorite four legged friends this holiday season! these ginger bread dog biscuits were a huge hit at our house... our puppers were eating scraps of dough from the floor .. and begging for more! best of all... all human edible ingredients ... and made the house smell AMAZING while they were baking. AMAZING!i made these little tags personalize with our names..

(I made another sheet to share for avery labels 5163... but I can not figure out how to post! grrrrrrrrrrr.) here it is as a single jpg. (feel free to right click and save - then drop image into the avery label form - finished tag is 2x4") OK... Cathe came to my rescue! thank you! here is the link for full sheet of labels!

gingerbread dog treats
Ingredients:

  • 1 cup molasses

  • 4 tablespoons honey

  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup vegetable oil

  • 6 cups all purpose flour (I used 3 c. reg and 3 cup WW)

  • 2 teaspoons baking soda

  • 1 teaspoons cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh ginger or one tsp. of dried powder ginger

Directions:Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Combine the molasses, honey, water, and oil in a medium bowl. In another large bowl mix the flour, the baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Combine well. Divide this dough in four sections and roll each piece into a ball, wrap each ball in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 3 – 5 hours. After the dough is well-chilled Put dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll dough out into 1/4" thickness. Cut dough with a cookie cutter into gingerbread men or bone shapes. bake 10-12 mins lightly greased ( or non-stick) pan.

enjoy! (p.s. if you are pressed for time the saturday before Christmas... these would make adorable valentine's day doggie treats too!)

  1. Hi,

These sound great! I am just putting together some stockings and these will be perfect! I noticed that you don't have a bake time. Do you just bake them as per gingerbread?

Thanks and have a wonderful holiday.
