I just got back from 3 days in New York City… What a way to get your creativity revved up! I came home with a full camera, a full sketch book, a full purse of the most adorable business cards, postcards, and collection of NYC “this n this” paper mementos you’ve ever seen … and of course a head FULL of new ideas!

I went mainly as a business trip – but I built in some time for
some heavenly window shopping and street strolling! (more on that later..)

On Monday I attended two trade shows at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

Surtex - which is a trade show that focuses on the sale and license of two-dimensional art and design. A very interesting concept – booth after booth of artists and studios with huge books containing hundreds of samples of their works – designs that can be purchased and or licensed and turned into wallpaper, greeting cards, textiles, housewares – you name it!

and the National Stationery Show – I love this show… I have been a few times. Even though I don’t technically design make or sell (well.. not yet!) any paper goods – this show is full of inspiration for me. Paper, greeting cards, small gifts and the most amazing array of color and pattern you will ever see in one room!

Monday night I had wonderful dinner with industry friends Jamie Lentzner
(Jamie’s Painting and design) and Vicki Bodwell (The Warm Biscuit Bedding Co.) it was so nice to finally meet these wonderfully inspirational women face to face… they were so full of positive energy & ideas. Some good ol' girlfriend-pep-talk motivation and genuine comradery.. something I have found so rare in this crazy industry ... thanks girls! I'm happy to share pink cupcakes with you anytime!

Jamie, Vicki and me...

Ok - so I did my due diligence at the trade shows…
but my real product and idea research came from SHOPPING!
Well.. in fact, just browsing…. I hit some of my NYC favs and a few new ones too.

The whole 3 days was just a blur of visual & creative stimulation.
Just the “Refresh Revive Renew” a person sometimes needs…

(here are some of my favorite finds..)

here is my DON'T MISS IT places in NYC to browse list...
ABC Carpet & Home

Pearl River
Kate's Paperie
Balthazar for Lunch and (met Jamie)

happy browsing.. happy creating!
